The U.S., China and Russia already possess sophisticated counter-space capabilities. Satellites can be monitored, approached, jammed, spoofed, blinded or potentially disabled. And in September 2026, the United States publicly acknowledged having on-orbit space-control weapons.
Star War - Phase I may be the transformation of space from a peaceful domain of communication, navigation and exploration into a contested military theatre.
The real space war may not begin with spectacular explosions.
It may begin quietly - with surveillance, electronic warfare, cyberattacks, satellite manoeuvres and the ability to deny an adversary access to space.
And if that is indeed where we are heading, the first battle may already have begun long before anyone officially calls it a war.
