I remember when I was in class iX or X, my mom used to say that Bharat is not completely independent.
I think she became aware of some of the issues about this subject from the Bengali newspaper at that time - called Yugantar - however, I am not sure from which source she got such types of information - I will have a chat with her and let you know.
But because at that time there was no Internet - I really had no source to verify that.

Today again I watched this great piece of creation by the director Buddhadeb Dasgupta.
You will understand that the police officers or the judges who brutally trampled over the true freedom fighters during the British era - all got plump positions in the "free" Bharat at different powerful official posts - the power transfer happened from the British people to the Brown sahibs.
In most nations, these leeches would have been identified and publicly hanged or at least shamed...

There is a famous design pattern in the Object Oriented domain by the name Proxy Design Pattern.
The basic idea behind this design pattern is that for all sorts of small lightweight duties, the proxy will handle it, but in case there is a heavy-duty task, the system will replace the proxy and the real actor will take on the responsibility, and carry out the task.
The reason behind such a design principle is not to disturb the real actor with insignificant tasks in the UNIVERSE.

Bill Gates and European Commission launch €100 million clean energy fund
Speaking at the launch in Brussels, Belgium, on 17 October, Gates said that science and innovation hold the key to tackling climate change.
‘My history at Microsoft made me an optimist, a believer in backing scientists to solve very tough problems,’ he said. ‘And here in Europe there’s an incredible number of scientists who’ve got good ideas.’
The €100 million Breakthrough Energy Europe fund combines €50 million of public funding from the EU and €50 million in long-term risk capital from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the Gates-led fund for energy startups. It will focus on technologies in the areas of electricity, transport, agriculture, manufacturing and buildings that reduce emissions by at least half a gigaton a year, as well as increase energy efficiency.
Carlos Moedas, the EU’s Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said: ‘We are delivering on our commitment to stimulate public-private cooperation in financing clean energy innovation. Together, we are opening up a new way of working for the future, one that will really make a difference.’
Europe’s leadership in addressing the challenge of climate change is ‘more important today than ever,’ said Gates, who added that innovation was the answer to the question of how to double the amount of energy used over the next 50 years, while also getting emissions down to zero.
When the Breakthrough Energy Europe team is up and running in 2019, they will sit down with universities and institutions across the continent to identify which research is ready to be turned into products. The aim is to invest the €100 million over the next two years and then potentially scale up the fund if it is successful.

The fund’s launch comes in the wake of a hard-hitting report from the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change which said that ‘unprecedented’ changes would be needed in all aspects of society to limit global warming to 1.5˚C above pre-industrial levels.
In particular, the report said this would mean ‘rapid and far-reaching transitions in energy, land, urban and infrastructure (including transport and buildings), and industrial systems’.
Maroš Šefčovič, the European Commission’s Vice President for Energy Union, said: ‘The IPCC (said) that every bit of warming matters and urgent action is needed to limit global temperature rise. Let’s collectively act as clean energy innovation warriors to inspire others.’
Scientists estimate that the world has already warmed by 1˚C since pre-industrial times as a result of human activities, and models show that, without action to cut emissions, global warming could exceed a catastrophic 4˚C by the end of this century.
The fund forms part of the EU’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union by at least 40% from 1990 levels by 2030. The public-private financing model is a pilot project that could in the future be replicated in areas other than clean energy.
In 2015, representatives from 195 countries met in Paris, France, and signed a binding agreement to limit global warming to well below 2 ˚C, and to aim for 1.5 ˚C. World leaders are due to meet again in December in Katowice, Poland, to look at progress towards this goal.
The European Commission is also working on a proposal to decarbonise the European economy by 2050, which will be published in November and will feed into December’s discussions in Poland.

The Minsk agreements, actually consisting of two agreements (Minsk I and Minsk II) signed in 2015, aimed to end the war in Ukraine's Donbas region. Here are the key points:
Security:
Immediate and complete ceasefire by both sides.
Withdrawal of heavy weapons from the front lines.
Monitoring of the ceasefire and withdrawal by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Political:
Dialogue on establishing temporary self-government for certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk within Ukraine, with specific details to be laid out in Ukrainian law.
Amnesty for combatants.
Release of prisoners of war.
Humanitarian:
Improved humanitarian access to the region.
Exchange of hostages.
Resumption of social and economic ties, including restoring pension payments.
Crucially: Ukraine would regain control of its border with Russia only after local elections were held in Donetsk and Luhansk according to Ukrainian law.

Then I used to think why the phenomenal success of ISRO just only remains as the page 5 or page 6 item of a newspaper... may be the reason lies elsewhere...
Everyone likes to see the world through his own colored glasses. These glasses are colored by the successes, joys, and failures of one's own life. Let me try to elaborate it a bit with a practical example...
One day we were gifted a bed cover by one of our relatives... Once my wife opened the packet, she was happy and said it was very nice in looks... I commented that it must be very costly... and the maid who was present at that time commented that the color won't fade away after a few washing...
so it was the same object... however our first reaction to that object was totally different... because we tried to look at that from our own colored glasses...
So for a farmer, the arrival of monsoon is important... for a daily worker, the means to commute to his workplace is important... for a daily passenger of the Mumbai train, the train schedule is important... for a daily roadside hawker, the way he handles the cops is important... for a daily office goer, the less congested road is important...and as most of the Indian population is constituted by these people, they hardly bother about any achievements attained by ISRO.
People fail to see themselves against the background of ISRO's success... when our country was reeling under the license-permit raj and the associated corruption, the ordinary people were able to relate themselves with the angry young man image of Big B. when India wins a cricket match, the common citizens of Bharat viewed it as the victory of their own over the rest of the world...
Any scientific innovation, it gets due importance only if it is able to create a big societal impact... That's the reason probably, Windows became popular quite some time back... And that's the only reason, probably Google has become a blue-eyed company in this internet age...
So for ISRO to make news on the front page of the newspaper, we must try to change our priorities...
Otherwise, every big achievement of ISRO will be greeted with "To kya hua" by the common people...
