Yesterday, i went to State Bank Of India to deposit one DD. I would like to tell you some of the lessons I have got and which i must propagate through this blog to let the top bosses of Bharat know, where exactly we lack and what might be the remedy to overcome that.
As with time, #bharat is continuously improving on technology usage, my wife instructed me, that i can now deposit the DD through an electronic machine.
So i went to a Machine called Sayam, and then i started watching one senior guy was using the Sayam to update his pass book.
The display was in several languages and it had a text to speech module.
i asked that gentleman, if a customer chooses Bengali, will the speech be also in Bengali, or will it be still in English?
He didn't bother.
Anyway, while he was updating the passbook, i found that the machine was doing it, one by one, meaning after printing one page, it is pusing out the passbook and the customer had to turn on the page and again he had to insert it.
I told him, maybe, this is some sort of deficiency which could be taken care of and then i was thinking i saw this exact stuff, where the pages are automatically turned inside the device by the machine itself in Singapore, during mid 90s.
Then one person asked me, sir, aapka keya kaam hai?
I told him, i'd like to deposit the DD.
He instructed me to go inside the bank and use another machine for that.
I went inside and saw another one.
i inserted my DD
After the scanning was done, one strange message came out
a three-lettered code saying that your DD falls under this category. hence, cannot be accepted.
i started asking one by one, what does it mean?
Nobody could answer.
One person with the MASK-ON, said, sir, You fill up this paper and submit it in the Drop Box.
i asked, why this discrimination?
He said, aisey hai sir
I started asking few young ladies, here and there, inside the bank
Mujhe bata yaar. ho keya raha hai?
Kyun aysey hai?
Then after i came back, i thought of it by myself and explained to my wife #reema - that may be after scanning the Machine will be able to know that this Cheque can be encashed at the local branch as i already have an account in the back and hence it should not be sent to any other centralised clearing back office for sorting out - just to save the extra effort which was a good design.
Then i explained to #reema -
The problem started because of the uncluttered mind of the person, who wrote the requirement analysis for this process.
Had the message clearly mentioned this logical statement in pure English term so that a lay man could understand this, there would not have been any issue
And i also explained to my wife, that unlike earlier days, when memory was an issue, now, if the software designer wants, he can write a whole story for entertainment along with the simple message and display it.
Then before dropping the DD to the drop box, i went to another young lady with MASK_ON, and asked her, "ma.'am, is it needed to be stamped?/ at least my part?"
And she put her stamp on the customer side of the paper.
I took it to another girl and asked, is this the correct way? because when i used to go to bank, the stamping was done in a different way - half on my side and half on the bank side.
I asked her, what is the exact rule?
She explained , apatato eytay - meaning for the time being- its okay.
I wanted to explain to her - that, in case it had to be scanned by an electronic device, it might not have the AI to instruct itself, that even if ma'am can use full 10 inch for stamping, it ll have to find out the exact 2" gap from that 10 inch to scan to successfully do the job.
As my wife had warned me not to use such camouflaged language openly with ladies, because they might charge me for harassment, i am writing this here so that we can get the right amount of maturity at workplace.
And in this regards, i'd like to tell you the problem with the GST website in the present form - which contains so many code language - which may seem to be very easy for the financial guy, but it was just french and Greek for a common guy. And had Narayan Murhty seen that he would have explained it to these kids.
May be this way.
Are bhailog, mere baat sun.
Inside the campus, you can call me NM. Everybody will understand this. Now if i take you guys to meet young people of Bharat outside Infosys, and you start calling me NM - sir.
Now the problem would be very catastrophic.
Because all those adolescent kids may use NM term among themselves to discuss about Namita Patel so that nobody could understand the code language.
Now they will be in total dilemma.
Because for them NM is Namita Patel - the symbol of adult life.
And when they look at me as NM
bas kahaniya wohi pe khatam ho jayega na.
Dimag ka batti jwala - aur kaam kar
Don't remain blindfolded.
Bas, itnay bolna tha.
Wake up.
And reclaim our place in the new global order.
